Google is introducing three new updates for iOS on Google Maps including dark mode, sharing live location from iMessage, and quick access to the information you need.
Some of the latest and probably the coolest features on iOS include the ability to explore and navigate in Incognito mode. Incognito mode is a private browsing feature in which the browser creates a temporary session that is isolated from the browser’s main session and user data. This means that if anyone happens to access your browser, they won’t see what it is exactly that you were searching for.
Here are the three new updates on Google Maps for iOS
1. Sharing your live location on iMessage
iPhone users will now be able to share their location in real-time with family and friends while texting. By tapping the Google Maps button on iMessage, the location will be live and shared for about an hour by default. However, one also has the option to extend it to up to three days. And to end sharing of location, you can simply tap “stop” on the thumbnail.
2. Get the information you need, fast
Google adds the nearby traffic widget to help users get information on live conditions of traffic, as quickly as possible. Users can access this information for their current location right from the home screen. You can use this feature to plan ahead — know what the traffic looks like before making your way out of your home.
To install the widget, you need to make sure you have the updated Google Maps app on your phone and follow these instructions:
- From your home screen, touch and hold a widget or an empty area until your apps jiggle.
- In the upper-left corner, tap the Add button.
- Search for and tap the Google Maps app.
- Swipe to select a widget, then tap Add Widget.
- Tap Done.
3. Dark mode on Google Maps for iOS
Google says that this feature will start rolling out in the coming weeks for users who wish to personalise their Google Maps. Perhaps you prefer dark screens, then this feature is for you. You will get to give your eyes a break while also saving your battery life.
To turn dark mode on you should:
- Head to your Settings
- Tap on dark mode
- then select “On”.
