On Tuesday it was revealed that the founder and executive chair of Dimension Data, Jeremy Ord, has resigned.
Jeremy Ord and other executives step down
According to City Press, the IT consulting company confirmed Ord’s departure and that of four other executives, saying his resignation was due to his term ending at the end of June. They added that there was nothing unusual about the departure.
However, a report by Techcentral on Tuesday revealed that Ord’s resignation was influenced by his failure to convince NTT to put the company back on the JSE as part of a management buyout and black economic empowerment deal.
The company delisted on the JSE in October 2010, after NTT took ownership of the company in a R41.6 billion (£2.1 billion) deal.
Alleged racism case at Dimension Data
Ord’s resignation also happens to come amid a court case between the company and Andile Ngcaba, who is a former executive chair at the company. Ngcaba sued the company for over R400 million in damages over alleged unequal remuneration and institutional racism.
According to a statement that was posted on the company’s website, DD said the case was based on unfounded accusations, and that the amount Ngcaba had received (which is R500 million, according to them) is way more than what any other executives of Dimension Data MEA had received over that period (12 years of him working as an executive chairman).
They also denied accusations about institutional racism on the basis that Ngcaba had led the company for 12 years, therefore it was impossible for him to have experienced such, given that he had a legal obligation to oversee issues of governance, transformation, and remuneration across the entire Dimension Data MEA organisation.
The company said Ngcaba has never raised the issues during the 12-year period when he was working for the company.
The court case is currently underway.
