If you have been on Twitter recently, then chances are, you have come across a tweet about Wordle before.
What is Wordle?
Every day, millions of users share tweets featuring a six-by-six row of squares, some coloured in grey, some in yellow and others green. For a rookie who has never played Wordle before, this sure comes across as a very strange sighting, at first.
However, avid players of the word game understand that the colour-coded boxes present a new challenge.
Wordle is the evolutionary version of crossword puzzles. The word game can only be played once a day and the challenge lies in finding the word of the day.
How do you play Wordle?
Players have 24 hours to submit their Wordle entries. Here are the game rules:
- Guess the Wordle in six tries
- Each guess must be a valid five-letter word
- Hit the ‘Enter’ button once you’re ready to submit your ‘Wordle’
- After each guess, the colour of the tiles will change to show how close your guess was to the word.
Can you download the game?
Currently, the viral word game recently purchased by New York Times, is only available on web browsers. Unofficial versions of the word game can be found on mobile app stores. However, these are, in no way, associated with the digital word puzzle that has encapsulated social media.
Wordle is available to play for free.
