Epic Games, who planned to release the new season of the global game phenomenon, Fortnite, in two weeks, announced that the new season will be postponed until June this year. But, gamers worldwide need not be too disappointed as an extension to the current season is expected instead.
Epic Games announces delay of Fortnite new season
The company made the announcement in a blog post:
“We have multiple game updates on the way that will deliver fresh gameplay, new challenges, bonus XP [experience points], and a couple more surprises up our sleeve,” the company wrote.
The company did not divulge whether the delay is due to the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) related restrictions, as many developers have had to work from home.
Although it is possible for game developers to work remotely, this comes with obvious limitations, such as hardware. Additionally, due to confidentiality issues concerning the game, a lot of companies have to operate under strict rules which can prevent certain steps from happening outside of the office.
This is not the first time that the battle royal game has experienced delays, as the first season of Chapter 2, which launched in October 2019, suffered quite a few delays. Regardless, postponements don’t seem to have had any long-term negative impact to the game, as Fortnite, along with other online games, have seen an increase in players amid the coronavirus lockdown.
