Cape Town police have cordoned off the area in and around the Department of Home Affairs branch in Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain, after a male victim was targeted in a shooting incident.
UPDATE: Shortly after this article was published, our sources confirmed the victim was declared dead on the scene. From what we understand, the unknown victim sustained two gunshot wounds in the lower body and another in the torso. Cape Town police have yet to respond to our request for more information.
What happened at Mitchell’s Plain Home Affairs branch?
Sources reporting to us on the ground indicate that chaos erupted at the Home Affairs service centre situated on Alpha Street in Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain, on Thursday morning, shortly after 11:00.
An eyewitness, who spoke to Swisher Post in anonymity, revealed they were queueing inside the building when at least five gunshots rang off outside the premises.
Crowds quickly gathered outside, where an unidentified male was seen lying in a pool of blood, across the road from a shopping district.
According to information trickling in from various sources who may have witnessed the ordeal, an unknown number of gunmen ambushed the victim as he walked out of the Home Affairs Department, suggesting he may have been the target of an orchestrated hit.
Local paramedics were at the scene resuscitating the victim when this article was published.
From what we understand, the Home Affairs Department in Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain, remains open and fully operational.
This shocking incident occurred a few days after the Beacon Valley community was horrified following the discovery of a headless corpse in the early hours of Monday, 2 October 2023.
The body was found lying on the road, with its head placed in a gift bag two streets away.
Cape Town police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident in a statement.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” Twigg stated at the time.
At this time, it’s unclear if the two incidents are related.
