After the Worlds tournament in League of Legends, where DRX, the underdog, won against one of the favourites, the eSports scene has never been more exciting. Besides LoL, other games are doing their best to keep up and grow their audience.
Even FIFA and other sports games are increasing their budget for the competitive side of the game. You might end up earning more from Madden than from your NFL expert picks, either way, the future is bright for the gaming industry.
One of the best ways to be more included in what’s going on in the gaming and eSports industry is to visit conventions that are happening all over the world. They are a very fun place to be because you get to know things in advance.
Gaming Events in 2023
The first big eSport event is related to Valorant because their major tournaments begin in January. The Champions Tour is played throughout the year, so you will have plenty of content to watch. The Universe Summit is also expected in 2023, but a specific date hasn’t been released. The only thing that was relieved was that it will happen in Hong Kong, and there will be a discussion about the future of gaming.
In February, you will have the Taipei Game Show, which is a great opportunity for people that are in the gaming industry and own a business because they will have a B2B corner. There are plenty of events that will occur but another one to mention is EVO Japan which will feature a few fighting game tournaments.
Dota 2 International
Dota 2 definitely stands out from any other game when it comes to pool prizes for international tournaments. The reason why they can afford this is that they use the budget from skin sales for the pool prize. The difference in 2023 is that Dota will return to the US after a few years and the Worlds will be played in Climate Pledge Arena.
The budget was decreased this year down to $20 million compared to other years, but that will change in the future. You would want to buy tickets on time because there are only 18,000 seats in the Arena, maybe a bit more when it comes to tournaments like this one.
League of Legends Changes
Some changes will come to the Worlds in LoL, which was discussed in the past, but after Worlds 2022 ended, they decided to move forward with this decision. In fact, they are working on having more games played during the group stage. These are still only speculations because there isn’t any certainty they will add the best of three.
MSI will also undergo these changes, which can also include differences in the play-in stage compared to the last season. They are working with the teams in order to figure out what is the optimal number of games that can be played internationally and in the world championship.
The location of the Worlds 2023 is still to be announced, but many players were not satisfied by the fact that in the E.U., it was played at 1 am. Even if you can’t satisfy everyone in the world because of the time zones, one of the best decisions is to have it in South East Asia as we had before.
Valorant Schedule
Valorant didn’t retain the popularity that it had in the beginning but it’s still one of the biggest FPS organizations created by RIOT games that also own League of Legends and many more games. The Kickoff tournament starts in February, which is the official beginning of the international tour.
The most important tournament will be the Valorant Champions which is the biggest, and only teams that won previous leagues and tournaments will get an invitation. For example, teams will have the Last Chance Qualifiers in June, where they will have the last chance to reach the championship tournament.
