J $tash, whose real name is Justin Joseph, left the Temple City community gobsmacked when his body was discovered next to a woman who had been gunned down in front of her children.
What happened to J $tash and Jeanette Gallegos?
As reported by People, Los Angeles County police responded to a domestic violence complaint at around 07:00 EST (13:00 in South Africa) on Saturday 1 January 2022.
Arriving at the scene, the first thing police saw were three children, aged between five and 11, in a great deal of distress. It didn’t take long for LA County responders to find the bodies of J $tash and 27-year-old Jeanette Gallegos in one of the bedrooms.
“The female victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while the male victim sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” deputies noted,
Turns out, one of the children, in a state of panic, reached out for a nearby phone and called 911. It is unclear, at this stage, if this was before or after J $tash killed his girlfriend.
Moreover, early indications suggest the 28-year-old LA rapper turned the gun on himself after unloading the cartridge on Gallegos.
“Right now, the evidence at the scene and the preliminary information we have from the children in the home is that it’s a murder-suicide,” police added.
Not a lot of information is available on the dynamics of the couple’s relationship, but, from what we understand, the rapper had been dating the woman for a year before the deaths. It’s also understood that the children, who have been taken in by Gallegos’ family. are not related to J $tash
We did some digging on the 27-year-old rapper and, turns out, he had a history with violence towards women. In this 2016 interview with No Jumper, J $tash nonchalantly admitted to beating up his ex-girlfriend but maintains it was self-defence. The rapper was never prosecuted for the assault.
Gallegos’ sister Erika Chavez has since started a Go Fund Me campaign in an effort to raise funds for the 28-year-old victim’s funeral.
“My sister leaves behind three beautiful boys who will have to continue living life with what’s left, the memories created with their mommy. Anything helps even just sharing this post.
“The donations will be used for my sister’s funeral expenses. Thank you in advanced in this hard time for my family. Rest in Paradise Jeanette. Fly high my beautiful Angel,” she wrote.
Investigations into the suspected murder-suicide are still ongoing.
