In the wee hours of Monday, Pearls of Umhlanga, in Durban, was the scene of a fire that forced a mass evacuation.
Pearls of Umhlanga: What caused the fire?
According to reports, alarm bells rang off from the residential resort at approximately 02:30 after a fire broke out at a penthouse situated atop the multi-storey building.
A crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene of the fire, watching in horror at the shimmering embers that glowed in the night sky. By then, fire and rescue officials were at the scene, conducting a mass evacuation of the building.

At approximately 03:35, the fire had been contained and the building was open to its residents once more. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident and the cause of the fire is still the subject of an investigation.
