Vusi Thembekwayo is set to be served with a divorce from his wife of 13 years, Palesa Thembekwayo.
Inside Vusi Thembekwayo’s cheating and abuse claims
Sunday World reported that the motivational speaker’s wife will instruct her lawyers to file for divorce after he “abused and cheated” on her. Palesa has indeed informed the businessman about her decision.
Additionally, she told him she would ask the court to order him to pay her R50 000 a month in rehabilitative maintenance and R20 000 for each of their children. Thembekwayo confirmed that the two were experiencing some difficulty in their marriage.
While he said that they were hard at work trying to fix their marriage, his wife could not be reached for further comment.
The first report of Thembekwayo’s assault
The pair wed in 2009 and have three children. However, their relationship made headlines in early December 2021, when an alleged assault case came to light. Palesa lodged a complaint of assault against him at Douglasdale police station on 4 December 2021, accusing him of assaulting her during one of their lover’s quarrels.
Thembekwayo was released on bail after appearing in the Randburg magistrate’s court following his arrest. His case was postponed after his lawyers asked for mediation.
Thembekwayo arrived at their home in Fourways after a trip away and found his drunk wife asleep. As a result, he woke her up and told her to pack her bags, which she refused. After an argument ensued, the assault took place.
He was said to have pulled her off the bed by her legs, struck her across the face several times, and dragged her down the stairs. Following this, he loaded her belongings in the car and drove her away. A frightened Palesa jumped out of the car and ran for her life after stopping at a traffic light.
The 37-year-old denied assaulting his wife and said that she had a substance abuse problem. Later, Palesa would say that she was hurt by these claims and felt that her reputation was damaged.
He was trolled on various social media platforms after releasing a statement in which he maintained his innocence.
