Comedian Trevor Noah has reportedly filed a lawsuit against a New York-based plastic surgeon for negligence, according to a 15-page summons submitted to the New York State Supreme Court on Monday 29 November 2021.
Trevor Noah sues plastic surgeon for negligence
As reported by Law and Crime, The Daily Show host is seeking monetary relief from orthopaedic surgeon Dr Riley J. Williams III and his Hospital for Special Surgery for “failing to use approved methods in general use in the care and treatment,” after a botched operation.
While it is unclear exactly what cosmetic surgery Noah went for, court papers filed at the New York County’s Supreme Court indicate he underwent an undisclosed procedure on 23 November 2020.
At the core, it’s believed Noah wants punitive justice for the scale of negligence he experienced at the hands of HSS and Dr Williams. In the court papers, Noah slammed the orthopaedic surgeon for being negligent and careless in failing to treat and care of him in a careful and skilful manner.
The host of the 2022 Grammy Awards also accused Dr Williams and his hospital of “failing to use approved methods in general use in the care and treatment.”
While, in its response, the hospital wholly denied the allegations, Noah went on to claim that after the botched operation, he was not properly administered with prescriptive medicine and, therefore, “sustained severe and painful personal injuries; sustained severe nervous shock, mental anguish, severe emotional distress and great physical pain; was confined to bed and home for a long period of time; was compelled to undergo hospital and medical aid, treatment and attention; has suffered loss of enjoyment of life; was prevented from engaging in his usual occupation for a long period of time; and since some of his injuries are of a permanent nature, he will continue to suffer similar damages in the future.”
“A reasonably prudent person in the position of the plaintiff would have refused the treatment rendered, had they been so informed of the risks, hazards and alternatives to the treatment rendered,” the court papers noted.
In response to the lawsuit, HSS vehemently rebutted the accusations made by Noah, scoffing them off as ‘meritless’.
“HSS is committed to excellence in the care we provide to each of the more than 150 000 patients we treat each year. This commitment has made HSS the world’s leading academic medical center specialized in musculoskeletal health, consistently ranked #1 in orthopedics globally and nationally,” the hospital said.
