Tory Lanez faces up to 22 years in prison for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in July 2020, and on Tuesday, a Los Angeles court heard sworn testimony from a detective who recorded the Houston rapstress’ statement on the events that allegedly transpired that night.
Detective reveals moments before and after Megan Thee Stallion shooting
Detective Ryan Stogner was a key witness at the preliminary hearing Tory Lanes, real name Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, attended.
For the first time, the world got intricate details about what had allegedly transpired between the former lovers inside that SUV, on their way home from Kylie Jenner’s party.
According to Stogner, Tory had gotten into an argument with Megan, the source of which is still unknown, and as she turned to walk away from the Canadian rapper, he allegedly yelled obscenities and told her to ‘dance b****’, before striking the Savage star on her foot with a semiautomatic rifle.
“Megan stated the defendant apologised for doing it and offered her money and begged her to please not say anything and made a reference to the fact he was already on probation and he begged her not to say anything,” Stogner revealed.
By then, the court heard, it was too late, since Stallion, real name Megan Pete, had crawled onto the driveway of a property and alerted residents, who immediately contacted police.
Tory was arrested and later released on more than R562 000 ($35 000) bail. He was not allowed within 91 metres (100 yards) of Megan but when he flouted this at the 2020 Rolling Loud festival in the viral cameo he pulled off with Da Baby, his bail was increased to more than R4 million ($250 000).
When is Tory Lanez trial set to start?
From what we understand, Tory’s defence tried to discredit Detective Stogner’s testimony by questioning the accuracy of Megan’s memory that night since she too was admittedly inebriated.
However, these assertions held no ground with the judge, who granted the State its push for a trial which is set to begin on Thursday 13 January 2022.
Tory faces one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm.
