The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued the following weather warnings and advisories for Wednesday, 22 January 2025:

  • Yellow Level 2 Warning: Disruptive rain is expected over southern KwaZulu-Natal, including its coast and adjacent interior. Localised flooding of settlements and low-lying bridges is likely.
  • Yellow Level 2 Warning: Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, damaging winds, and severe lightning are anticipated over the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
  • Yellow Level 1 Warning: Damaging winds and waves between Oyster Bay and Port Edward could result in navigation difficulties, small vessels taking on water, and vessels dragging anchor.

Additionally, extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Northern Cape, except in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, as well as the West Coast interior, Cape Winelands, and Central Karoo regions.

Extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are forecasted over parts of the Northern Cape, Western Cape, and Little Karoo.

  • Free State: Morning fog patches in the east, otherwise partly cloudy, windy, and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.
  • Northern Cape: Fine and windy in the west, partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except in the south and southwest. Morning fog patches along the coast. Coastal winds: Moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.
  • Western Cape: Fine and warm to hot, but very hot to extremely hot over the West Coast, Cape Winelands, Central Karoo, and Little Karoo districts. Coastal winds: Moderate northerly to north-westerly north of Table Bay, fresh to strong easterly to south-easterly elsewhere, reaching gale force in the southwest in the morning.   • Eastern Half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy and warm with scattered showers and rain. Isolated thundershowers expected in the extreme west. Coastal winds: Fresh to strong north-easterly.
