The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued the following weather warnings for Tuesday, 17 December 2024:

  • Yellow Level 2 Warning: Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, hail, strong winds, and excessive lightning are expected in Gauteng, eastern North West, Free State, parts of Mpumalanga, the Western Bushveld of Limpopo, and northern KwaZulu-Natal. These conditions may cause localized flooding, property damage, and municipal service disruptions.
  • Fire Danger Warning: Extremely high fire danger conditions are anticipated in the Limpopo Valley.
  • Advisory: Extremely uncomfortable conditions are expected along the coast and interior of KwaZulu-Natal, the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, and the Limpopo Valley until Wednesday.

  • Mpumalanga: Cloudy in the east with morning fog; partly cloudy and warm elsewhere. Scattered showers and thundershowers, very hot to extremely hot in the Lowveld.
  • Limpopo: Morning clouds in the Lowveld; partly cloudy and hot to very hot elsewhere. Scattered showers and thundershowers, extremely hot in the Limpopo Valley.
  • North West: Fine in the morning, partly cloudy and hot later, with scattered showers and thundershowers in the east, isolated in the west.
  • Free State: Fine in the morning; partly cloudy and warm to hot with scattered thundershowers in the east, isolated in central areas.
  • Northern Cape: Fine and warm, very hot in the east and central parts, but cool along the coast. Partly cloudy in the northeast in the afternoon.
  • Western Cape: Cloudy in the northeast early, otherwise fine and warm. Partly cloudy along the south coast and adjacent interior, cooling in the evening.
  • Eastern Cape (West): Isolated showers in the southeast early; otherwise fine and warm to hot, partly cloudy and cool along the coast and southeast.
  • Eastern Cape (East): Cloudy and cool along the coast; partly cloudy and warm elsewhere, with isolated thundershowers except in the extreme northwest.
  • KwaZulu-Natal: Morning fog patches; partly cloudy and warm to hot, becoming cloudy with scattered thundershowers in the afternoon.
