The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued the following weather warnings for Tuesday, 27 August 2024:

  • Yellow Level 2 Warning:
    • Damaging winds expected over Joe Gqabi, eastern parts of Chris Hani District, Matatiele, Amahlathi, Raymond Mhlaba, Sundays River Valley Local Municipalities, and Nelson Mandela Bay Metro in the Eastern Cape, as well as southern parts of the Northern Cape, most of the Western Cape, and western parts of the Free State.
  • Orange Level 6 Warning:
    • Damaging interior winds expected to disrupt travel services, damage settlements, and create a high risk of runaway fires over the Garden Route, eastern Overberg, eastern parts of the Cape Winelands, southern Central Karoo Municipalities in the Western Cape, and Sarah Baartman District, Inxuba Yethemba, and Enoch Mgijima Local Municipalities in the Eastern Cape.
  • Yellow Level 2 Warning:
    • Disruptive rainfall likely to cause localised flooding in the Cape Winelands, City of Cape Town, and parts of the West Coast Municipalities in the Western Cape.
  • Orange Level 6 Warning:
    • Damaging coastal winds and waves are expected to affect coastal infrastructure and small harbours from Lambert’s Bay to Port Alfred, spreading to Alexander Bay in the evening.

  7. Western Cape:
    • Partly cloudy in the east where it will be cool, otherwise cloudy and cold with rain and isolated showers but scattered in the far southwest. Very windy and gusty over the interior.
    • Coastal winds: Fresh to strong north-westerly to westerly, reaching gale force south of Cape Point.

  8. Western Half of the Eastern Cape:
    • Fine, windy, and cool to warm, becoming cloudy with isolated showers and rain along the coast from the evening.
    • Coastal winds: Light westerly, becoming strong to gale force south-westerly from the afternoon.
  9. Eastern Half of the Eastern Cape:
    • Fine and warm.
    • Coastal winds: Light north-westerly, becoming north-easterly in the afternoon, but fresh to strong south-westerly at night.
  10. KwaZulu-Natal:
    • Fine and warm to hot, but very hot in the northeast.
    • Coastal winds: Light westerly to south-westerly south of Richard’s Bay in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly.
    • UVB sunburn index: High.
