Somizi Mhlongo has opted to mute the backlash that’s come his way after his estranged husband Mohale Motaung opened up about their rocky relationship.
Mohale Motaung confirms marriage is over
Outside of the glitz and glam of their love affair that was syndicated by Multichoice and other networks, in what still remains one of South Africa celebriton’s most lavish weddings, things between Mhlongo and Motaung were far from what one would describe as healthy.
Finally, Motaung, in an audio interview leaked by Sunday World, has put to bed any lingering hope of the couple rekindling their once-coveted romance.
In the recording, Motaung reportedly opens up to producers of the Living the Dream with Somizi reality TV show, about the alleged level of control he was subdued in, in his marriage.
Apparently, he was not allowed to rub shoulders with certain people and shockingly, Mhlongo allegedly refused to let Motaung explore potential job opportunities out of fear that he would “build too much”.
‘Somizi Mhlongo beat me up’ – Mohale
Perhaps, the most gob-smacking allegation came when Motaung alleged that he was subjected to physical abuse as early as a few weeks into their relationship.
Allegedly, Mhlongo was perturbed by Motaung’s defiance in pursuing a paid campaign gig with NSFAS that he did not approve of.
“We had a huge fight about it. Cool, I did my NSFAS thing in Durban, did everything and came back. [I] came back on the Friday and he beat me up. Like, beat me up totally hectic. My ribs were broken, my tooth was falling out, and scratches, like, proper beat me up,” Motaung claimed.
In response to the allegations, Mhlongo muted comments on his social media posts and released a statement via entertainment blogger Kgopolo Mphela, which read:
“Mr Somizi Mhlongo has become aware of allegations allegedly made against him by his estranged husband, Mr Mohale Motaung, published in the Sunday World newspaper on 1 August 2021. Given the severity of the allegations, Mr Mhlongo has referred the matter to his legal team who are best equipped to handle the matter moving forward.”
The Idols SA host has not said a word about the wild claims made by his estranged husband as yet. At this time, everything exposed in the Sunday World audio recording leak has shaped the Mhlongo backlash on social media.
Neither Motaung nor Mhlongo has been available to take questions from the media at this stage.
