Revered producer and actor Shona Ferguson has passed away after a week battling for his life at a Johannesburg hospital, reports confirm.
Has Shona Ferguson dies: What’s the cause of death?
On Friday, social media was in a panic after it was reported that the producer of South Africa’s hit soap-drama The River lost his life at Milpark Hospital.
While at first, the news was treated with heavy speculation, in part due to this week’s run-ins with fake news about the death of Bonginkosi ‘Zola’ Dlamini, a representative close to the family confirmed to News24 that, unfortunately, the news was true.
“Yes, Mr Ferguson passed away at noon today. And all the family is asking for at the moment is just to mourn in private. But it’s very difficult, you can imagine, for Connie and the family,” Conrad Mwanza told the publication.
The representative revealed that at this time, Connie and the Fergusons were asking for privacy as this untimely death was a matter that still had to sink in.
However, from what we understand, Ferguson passed away after he was admitted to hospital with a severe case of COVID-19.
Prior to this, speculation, fuelled by Connie’s social media activity, was rife with claims that Shona was dead. These were her most recent posts on social media.
The actress also posted this image on her Instagram Story, which once again, references a Biblical phrase.
Alicia’s social media activity was also widely scrutinised. Her most recent post on Instagram was published on Father’s Day, where she penned a hearty tribute to her best friend and inspiration.
“I love you so much Fa, and I hope you have an amazing day today,” she wrote.
The Ferguson’s daughter appeared to be in an upbeat mood on Thursday evening since according to actress Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson’s Instagram activity, the two were spending time together playing Instagram Story games.
However, Matsunyane-Ferguson’s most recent IG Storey post showed nothing more than a candle emoji, prayer hands and stardust.
The family has yet to release an official statement.
