Several people were injured in a crash involving a taxi and an SUV outside Cornubia Mall in Mt Edgecombe, Durban, on Tuesday morning.
Taxi passengers rushed to hospital after Cornubia Mall crash
According to sources close to the situation, the crash left multiple passengers injured, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
KZNVIP Medics, along with other emergency services, arrived at the scene to find multiple patients seated on the roadway, with motorists assisting in extracting passengers from the taxi.
Paramedics were met with a chaotic scene as the taxi had lost control after the collision and overturned, scattering passengers across the road.
ALS Paramedics quickly conducted a triage and determined that a total of 16 patients from both vehicles had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched to assist in stabilising the injured before they were transported to various medical facilities in Durban for further care.
At this stage, the events leading up to the crash remain unclear.
Authorities, including SAPS and Metro Police, were present at the scene and have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
