The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has broken its silence on reports of a new partnership with EasyPay.
SASSA clears the air on reports of a partnership with EasyPay
As SASSA grant payment dates for December 2024 draw closer, the social security agency has been reeled into speculation over a newly formed venture with the digital financial services company.
Last week, media reports circulated online announcing a new digital system for SASSA grants.
The claims, which have since been retracted by several prominent publications, spoke of a digital system that “promises to transform the lives of millions of needy South Africans.”
However, according to a statement released by SASSA on Monday, reports of a partnership agreement with EasyPay “is not accurate.”
“We would like to inform the public that this information is incorrect,” the social grants agency noted.
Lesaka Head of Sales Simphiwe Phakathi, who was quoted in the fake news reports, has also distanced himself from the rumoured partnership.
“We urge our beneficiaries to remain vigilant, especially during the festive season, and to rely on official SASSA communications for updates on new initiatives and innovations,” SASSA warned.
