Rihanna was not physically at the 2022 Met Gala but she may have stolen the entire occasion with this historic unveiling.
Rihanna baby bump statue unveiled at Met Museum
It was a star-studded affair on the Met red carpet, as usual, with celebrities turning up in their depictions of the night’s theme: Gilded Glamour.
Nicki Minaj, who surfaced in a mono ensemble, topped with a one-of-none custom Balenciaga baseball cap, was one of many stand-out showings that impressed fashion journalists.
However, Riri, whose reputation at the Gala needs no further reiteration, was yet to make her mark at this year’s high society fundraiser.
Sure, the Work songstress did not grace the red carpet for reasons, we assume, may be tied to her gestational journey, but why would that even be of any relevance if, for instance, the Metropolitan Museum of Art held an unveiling of the Barbadian’s baby bump?
In honour of Rihanna’s fierce and disruptive approach to pregnancy fashion, the museum, commissioned by Vogue (and personally signed off by Anna Wintour, if we were to make an educated guess), erected a statue of the musician.
This was her reaction:
“[I] shut down the met in marble! what’s more gilded than that? Lol! Thank you [Met Museum] and [Vogue Magazine] for this historic tribute! y’all bad for this one!” she tweeted.
Here is the video of the unveiling that’s sent shockwaves across social media.
