The inauguration ceremony will be broadcast live on various platforms to ensure all South Africans can witness this significant event.
The broadcast will start at 11:00 on Wednesday, 19 June 2024, and will be available on national television channels such as SABC and eNCA.
Additionally, live streaming will be accessible on the official websites of these broadcasters, and on social media platforms including YouTube and Facebook.
The Presidency has also invited South Africans to follow the event through these digital channels to stay updated with the proceedings.
Here’s what to expect
The inauguration ceremony will take place at the Union Buildings’ Nelson Mandela Amphitheatre.
Chief Justice Raymond Zondo will conduct the swearing-in of President-Elect Cyril Ramaphosa.
The event will be attended by a diverse group of South African and international guests, including members of Parliament, political party representatives, leaders of organised labour, business and civil society organisations, religious leaders, and South Africans who have excelled in various fields.
International dignitaries, including 18 Heads of State and Government, three former Heads of State, and nine Heads of Delegation from countries such as Eswatini, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Angola, Tanzania, Uganda, China, Egypt, Palestine, Cuba, will also be present.
The day’s program will commence with a cultural event on the South Lawns of the Union Buildings at 09:00, showcasing local artists and celebrating South Africa’s cultural diversity.
The formal proceedings will begin at 11:00, featuring ceremonial elements performed by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), including a 21-gun salute, a salute flight by the South African Air Force, inspection and march past of a SANDF battalion, and a massed fly past.
Following the swearing-in, President Ramaphosa will deliver his inaugural address, highlighting his vision and plans for the nation.
This event marks his continuation in office after being re-elected by the National Assembly on 14 June 2024.
