The MK Party is gearing up to celebrate a significant milestone: its first anniversary.
MK Party lays out rules for first anniversary rally
Scheduled for Sunday, 15 December 2024, the rally will take place at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium and is expected to draw thousands of supporters.
At a press conference, national organiser Floyd Shivambu provided a detailed breakdown of the rally’s arrangements and guidelines, stressing the party’s commitment to compliance and security.
He highlighted the scale of the preparations, noting that transport logistics and venue management had been meticulously planned to accommodate supporters from across KwaZulu-Natal.
“We are not providing transport for MK Party members and supporters from other provinces,” Shivambu clarified.
The focus, he explained, is on KwaZulu-Natal as the host province for this inaugural rally.
Key highlights of the rally plan:
- Venue and Timings: Gates will open at 07:00, with an entertainment program starting at 09:00.
- An interfaith prayer session from 11:00 to 12:00 will precede the official program, which includes a keynote address by MK Party President Jacob Zuma.
- Transport arrangements: The party has arranged buses, taxis, and free train rides on lines from KwaMashu, Umlazi, and Cato Ridge to Moses Mabhida Stadium. Self-transported attendees are advised to use designated turnstiles to avoid congestion.
- Security measures: Alcohol, firearms, and dangerous weapons are strictly prohibited. Traditional weapons are permitted only for amaButho carrying proper permits. Drone operators must secure prior approval from authorities.
A day after the rally, on Monday, 16 December 2024, the MK Party will host its first gala dinner at the Olive Convention Centre.
The dinner is designed to bring together key stakeholders, raise funds for the party, and reinforce its public image.
Gala dinners are a staple in political strategy, serving as platforms for networking, showcasing achievements, and rallying financial support.
The MK Party’s packages, which include seating and access to the rally’s hospitality suites, include::
- Platinum Spear Table: R2,000,000 for 30 guests.
- Golden Spear Table: R1,500,000 for 25 guests.
- Silver Spear Table: R1,000,000 for 20 guests.
Despite the high stakes, the party has faced challenges selling these packages.
Shivambu acknowledged the situation, stating that tables and individual tickets remain unsold less than a week before the event.
Information on potential road closures ahead of Sunday’s rally was yet to be canvassed when this article was published.
