Megan Thee Stallion and 1501 Certified Entertainment honcho Carl Crawford are headed back to court for the umpteenth time and, at this point, it’s quite clear no love is lost between the two parties.
Megan Thee Stallion sued by record label: Here’s why
The Houston-born rapper, whose real name is Megan Pete, won’t have it easy in her attempts to wiggle herself out of a shoddy contract she signed with 1501 back in 2018.
Per TMZ, Crawford has hauled his artist to court for failing to honour her contractual obligations and allegedly redirecting monies earned from non-music activities away from the label.
Court documents seen by the cited publication indicate that Megan’s last offering, the Something For The Hotties compilation project, does not meet the requirements of what is deemed a studio album in her contract.
Crawford insists Megan agreed that, under the Minimum Recording Commitment, any album she makes must have at least 12 new master recordings not previously released.
These album submissions must also be approved by the label before release and according to 1501, Megan allegedly failed to honour this aspect of due process when she dropped the project in October 2021.
She also submitted a 21-track compilation containing previously released songs, long-winded interludes and only 29 minutes of new masters, according to Crawford.
1501, it’s understood, wants the court to recognise their contract with Megan as binding, with two albums still owed to the label.
Morevoer, Megan’s label wants approval to audit her finances.
In particular, Crawford wants monies owed to his label from his artist’s “collaborations, sponsorships, endorsements, and side engagements,” which he claims exceeds $1 million (est. R15 million).
Megan blasts Crawford on social media as ‘clueless’ label owner
The counter lawsuit filed by 1501 comes a month after Megan hauled Crawford to court for impeding on her ability to fulfil the terms of her contract.
According to the WAP star, 1501 allegedly signed off on Something For The Hotties as an album and, based on her calculations, she has one last offering for the label before she fulfils her contract.
In a series of tweets, the Savage rapper blasted Crawford for strong-arming her into submission in her attempts to free herself from the clutches of people she describes as “greedy ass men.”
“First the man over my label said I don’t make him any money… now he counter suing trying to keep me on his label because he wants to make more money lol if I ain’t making you no money why not just drop me?” she wrote in one tweet.
Megan also went for the jugular in lambasting Crawford for his questionable business acumen.
Responding to the label head’s claims about alleged monies owed to 1501 from live performances and other non-record-related activities, the 27-year-old revealed she divvies up her gross income with management Roc Nation, and 300 Entertainment.
The latter, Megan signed with in 2018 under a cooperative partnership between 300 Entertainment and 1501. Therefore, in her tweets, Megan hinted at the fact that Crawford ought to be knocking on the doors of 300 Entertainment for his share of the profits, and not hers.

Crawford, in response, shot down everything Meg tweeted as a lie, vowing that “the truth will be out soon enough.”
The former pro football player also confirmed his intentions of filing a defamation lawsuit against the Houston Hottie for her claims about his alleged drug habits, all while labelling Megan as a “[bonafide] alcoholic who f***** the whole industry, including her best friend n****.”
