To say that Nasty C has made it is understated. The 23-year-old has propelled his brand to international markets and his latest stop on the American media circuit was on VladTV.
Nasty C sits down with VladTV: Three things we learned
Nasty C is effectively the first South African artist to feature on the popular YouTube show.
The Zulu Man With Some Power went through the usual biographical information about his come-up but in between that, he shared things we didn’t know about him.
The interview is out on VladTV’s YouTube channel in parts. These are the three things we learned:
He recognises Emtee as his co-leader of the new school
Nasty C made it clear that apart from a few emotions that slip through the art, his sole purpose in the game is to make bangers. He recognised himself and fellow rapper Emtee as the originators of SA Hip-Hop’s club bangers.
Of course, this is a wild assertion void of any factual data.
Why Strings N Bling is important to him
When asked to give more insight into why he labelled his sophomore project Stings N Bling, Nasty C explained that one half of album title refers to a phase in his career when he was drawn to string instruments. Strings also refer to the connections he had made at that point in his career.
Bling, on the other hand, is self-explanatory. Together, the album explored themes similar to the popular phrase “your network is your net worth.”
Nasty C doesn’t know South Africa’s HIV stats
This part of the interview should have been scrapped. If anything, Nasty C having no clue about his home country’s health issues exposed his level of maturity.
Alas, the rapper’s reaction to DJ Vlad reading out South Africa’s HIV stats — in relation to the country’s risk in dealing with coronavirus (COVID-19) — was:
“You hear about them (HIV stats) as you do Life Orientation at school or shit like that. You hear about it in the newspaper or whatever. I didn’t know they were that crazy though.”
