We are hours away from getting our hands on the much-anticipated Zulu Man With Some Power (ZMWSP) album by South African rapper Nasty C. To get things going as we wait impatiently, the 23-year-old star released the Apple Music exclusive Origins short film, which takes a look into his humble beginnings growing up in the dusty streets of Durban.
Nasty C Origins doccie: Watch it right here
A glimpse into the Nasty C Origins documentary makes it abundantly clear that the rapper has already cemented his place in SA Hip-Hop’s ‘Mount Rushmore’, and his eyes are now set on conquering the international market.
The 14-minute clip is, in short, a reintroduction to who Nasty C is, where he’s from, his influences and how he took over the scene and became the most sought-after South African export in the urban scene.
Unfortunately for non-iOS fans, Origins is, at the time being, only exclusive to Apple Music. The details of this centralised licensing deal have — for obvious reasons — been kept under wraps but we suspect more to come from the two entities in the near future.
If you have an Apple Music subscription, you can watch the short film right here:
ZMWSP latest news: Any new developments?
At this point, there is little else Nasty C can do to ZMWSP. The album’s been turned in, the marketing rollout oversaw by his new label home, Def Jam Recordings is steaming ahead, and thousands of fans have preordered the album.
Executive produced by No. I.D, the album features guest appearances from T.I, Ari Lennox and his good friend Tellaman.
According to recently released Spotify data (see below), ZMWSP is fixing up to be the rapper’s most successful album to date. This is largely attributed to his growing audience in these countries:
ZMWSP drops on all digital streaming platforms on Friday 28 August 2020.
