Kim Kardashian is legally single and according to Wednesday’s court judgment, she can finally return to her maiden surname and formally disassociate herself from her now-ex-husband Kanye West.
Kim Kardashian is legally single, court declares
After a gruelling period of back-and-forths from the once-powerful couple, Ye finally yielded to his ex-wife’s pleas for a divorce. A day before Kim and Ye were due in court, Hollywood Unlocked published an exclusive, revealing that the DONDA rapper was ready to move on with his life and green light the formal dissolution of his marriage.
“I’ve asked my team to expedite the dissolution of my marriage to Kim so I can put my entire attention into our beautiful children,” the rapper said.
In court, Kim appeared via video call to answer procedural questions lodged at her by the judge, per TMZ.
Kanye, who ditched out on the court proceedings, was represented by his new attorney — his fifth so far — Samantha Spector, who represented Nicole Young in her divorce from Dr Dre.
No objections were heard from the 44-year-old rap-fashion billionaire’s bench, and after a minor fix to the paperwork, Kim was declared legally single.
The only condition that applies to her renewed status is that any right to get reimbursement of money that is supposed to be divvied up will be preserved in case either of them dies. In this case, the condition would apply to the monies each party contributed towards the ex-couple’s $60 million mega mansion.
Here is how Kanye West reacted
In the midst of the events unfolding in court, Ye was enjoying a day out and about in Miami, Florida. The rapper appeared at a number of locations in the coastal metropolis, embraces fans with comments on his antics at the DONDA 2 listening party, and even sat down for an epic photo-op with Khloe Kardashian’s ex Tristan Thompson.

Following the formal announcement of Kim’s single status, Ye commissioned the release of Eazy‘s music video, a single he recently released with The Game.
Bizarrely, the music video features cartoon figurines of the rapper burying Pete Davidson, Kim’s new boyfriend, alive and loading the roses he planted on his grave on a truck for delivery, similarly to the Valentine’s Day gift he sent to Kim.
