South African songstress Kelly Khumalo is putting final touches on her upcoming gospel album From a God to a King, and on Tuesday, she gifted fans a teaser.
Kelly Khumalo gospel album almost ready
By the sound of the snippet Khumalo posted on Instagram, it seems the Empini star is pivoting away from Afro-Pop music. With the ongoing trials and tribulations in her personal life, perhaps, the former partner of Senzo Meyiwa is in search of a spiritual awakening?
Or, by virtue of the caption that accompanied the teaser, maybe Khumalo has leaned on gospel music to find protection against the heightened heckling she’s endured recently?
Alas, the snippet she teased sounds like a trademark Khumalo chart-topper and, as things stand, no information has been leaked on when the songstress is prepared to release her follow-up to The Voice of Africa.
Elsewhere, Khumalo’s name has featured prominently in the Meyiwa murder trial. Proceedings into the trial, where five suspects, represented by defence attorneys Advocate Teffo Malesela and Zandile Mshololo, respectively, are accused of the murder of Meyiwa, were forced to a halt after a second docket emerged, listing Khumalo as one of seven suspects allegedly responsible for the former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper’s death.
Prior to the saga around the second case docket, Advocate Malesela had asserted, during cross-examination of the State’s first witness, evidence collector Sergeant Thabo Mosia, that a witness expected to participate in the trial was willing to testify that Khumalo was the alleged shooter who gunned down Meyiwa at her mother’s Vosloorus home, on 24 October 2014.
The weapon, Malesela exclaimed, was allegedly brought into the house by Chicco Twala’s son, Longwe.
Advocate Mshololo was granted a grace period to study the contents of the second case docket by Pretoria High Court Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela, and the matter has been postponed to 12 July 2022, when both the defence and the State will submit heads of argument.
The outcome of the submissions made will be ruled on in September 2022.
