Johnny Depp recently won his defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. However, more details about the lawsuit have surfaced.
Inside the new allegations
It has been two months since Depp won his lawsuit against Heard in a legal battle in Virginia, US. Recently, more than six thousand pages of pretrial documents were unsealed and made public. These documents would reveal matters that attorneys for both sides wanted to exclude from the jury. The court filings included shocking allegations from both Heard and Depp.
The records were published online by legal commentator, Andrea Burkhart.
Depp originally sued his ex-wife for $50 million over a 2018 Washington Post op-ed. In the publication, Heard described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” The actress filed a countersuit asking to be granted immunity against Depp’s claims shortly after.
Heard has filed to appeal the verdict favouring the actor, who she’s been ordered to pay almost $10.5 million. Meanwhile, Depp is seeking to overturn the $2 million verdict awarded to Heard in her countersuit against him. Nothing is ever fair in love and war, is it?
Here are some of the allegations between Depp and Heard
Johnny Depp’s attorneys wanted to submit Heard’s nudes into evidence
Heard’s counsel contended that “irrelevant personal matters” prohibited Depp’s legal team from putting “nude images of Amber Heard” into evidence for the trial. They also attempted to keep the jury from seeing a reality show clip of Heard’s sister, Whitney Henriquez, and information about their “previous romantic relationships.”
Amber Heard’s attorneys claimed Johnny Depp suffered from erectile dysfunction
In the unsealed documents, Heard’s lawyers stated that the 59-year-old suffered from erectile dysfunction. They linked his condition to sexual assault, including raping Amber with a bottle. Johnny denied the sexual and physical abuse allegations made by the Aquaman actress during the six-week trial.
Heard accused of working as an escort before meeting Depp
Per the unsealed documents, Amber’s attorneys argued to exclude “Amber’s stint as an exotic dancer years before she met Mr Depp” from the trial. Her attorneys said in the filing that Depp’s attorneys were attempting to use it as evidence “to frivolously and maliciously insinuate or imply that Ms Heard was at one time an escort.”
Johnny Depp’s Lawyers Wanted to Exclude His Texts With Marilyn Manson in Trial Against Amber Heard
In the unsealed documents, text exchanges claimed to be between Depp and friend Marilyn Manson from 2016 were included. In the texts, the singer referred to his wife, Lindsay Usich, as “an amber 2.0.” Manson texted the actor that Usich “pulled an amber on me” by seeking a restraining order. This is something that Heard did after filing for divorce.
The actor’s attorney argued in the unsealed court documents that the texts between him and Manson would pin him as “guilty by association theory. Heard’s attempt to insert Manson into the case was said to have lacked the necessary foundation and constituted improper character evidence.
Many women, including his ex-fiancée, Evan Rachel Wood, have openly accused Manson of sexual abuse. The rockstar has denied the accusations, referring to them as “horrendous distortions of reality” in a public statement last year. He sued Wood for defamation in March due to her allegations of assault.
