A fire broke out at the Johannesburg Country Club in Auckland Park on Tuesday afternoon, and the cause is still under investigation.
What caused fire at Johannesburg Country Club?
The fire, which started around 16:20, was first spotted in the kitchen, according to reports from on-site employees.
Videos circulating online captured staff members fleeing the building as thick smoke billowed from the structure.
Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi confirmed that three fire engines were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze.
“City of Johannesburg emergency management services received a structural fire call around [16:20]. On arrival at Johannesburg Country Club, firefighter crews found the building gutted with flames,” said Mulaudzi.
The affected areas included the kitchen, dining hall, and reception.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as all individuals in the building managed to evacuate safely.
“The fire has been contained in the kitchen, dining hall, and reception area. At the moment, the cause of the fire is still a subject of investigations,” added Mulaudzi.
Investigators are now working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
