Big Sean has finally resurged his album rollout for Detroit 2 with the release of Deep Reverance, a single that features a highly anointed verse from the late Nipsey Hussle.
Detroit 2: When is it dropping?
Big Sean’s fifth studio album should have already dropped if we are to believe his words in recent interviews. However, the advent of the coronavirus (Covid-19) forced the rapper to push things back but it seems it might have been for the best.
Only days after appearing on Nas’ King’s Disease album, Sean announced that he is finally done recording Detroit 2 and that he had filed it in for mixing and mastering.
Speculation grew on the album’s release date but Sean would not keep his fans waiting any longer. He later revealed that the project is scheduled to drop on Friday 4 September 2020.
Listen: Big Sean features Nipsey Hussle on Deep Reverance
Already, it’s confirmed that one of the marquee features who appear on this album include the late Nipsey Hussle.
The Los Angeles rapper’s posthumous appearance on the inspiring song adds further credence to the fact that Hussle’s life was taken well before his time and that the path that laid ahead for him was great, to say the least.
Alas, what is, shall remain so. We can appreciate Sean for opening up the vault and annointing our spirits with such an emotionally charging song on a whim, it seems.
One key takeout after a few listens is the rumoured Kendrick Lamar beef that’s circulated Hip-Hop corridors for years since that infamous Control leak.
Sean revealed how the passing of Hussle and retired LA Lakers basketball icon Kobe Bryant encouraged him to reach out to the Top Dawg Entertainment empresario to re-establish rapport and quell the noise.
If this record is a taste of what’s to come on Detroit 2 then we are wholly satisfied and can’t wait until next week Friday.
