Eminem was one of two Hip-Hop acts nominated for the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
UPDATE: Eminem, alongside Country music legend Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, Lionel Ritchie, Carly Simon, Eurhythmics and Pat Benatar, made the final cut for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2022, the organisation confirmed on Wednesday. This was Eminem’s first year of eligibility.
Eminem eligible for Rock Hall induction
Marshall Mathers is no stranger to controversy. In fact, apart from his past troubles with drug addiction, riling up the emotions of naysayers was his fix. He lived for it. Eminem may have matured into a reserved menace to society but, he would have most certainly been aroused by the heckling that came with the announcement of his nomination into this year’s Rock Hall induction.
Rolling Stone‘‘s Keith Murphy, in particular, was far from amused, terming Em’s nomination a spite to Hip-Hop.
The Slim Shady LP, which dropped in 1999, would not grant the rapper qualification into Rock Hall since it was 23 years ago. However, this was not his debut album per se.
In fact, Infinite, an 11-track project he released in 1996 under Web Entertainment, is what grants the rapper recognition as an eligible nominee for this year’s inclusion in music’s most-coveted museum.
While this album did not do much in terms of record sales, it was the launch pad Eminem used to meet Dr Dre, the legendary producer responsible for his dominance in the early 21st century.
Eminem went on sell more than 100 million records worldwide and earned 14 ‘number ones’ on Billboard‘s Top 200 albums chart. Among other achievements, Eminem is recognised as a five-time Academy Award winner and is one of modern music’s most successful artists with 15 Grammys.
