Legendary mixtape-era DJ and producer Kay Slay, real name Keith Grayson, is in critical condition and from what we understand, the 55-year-old is at risk of losing the fight to COVID-19.
DJ Kay Slay on ventilator, fighting bad case of COVID-19
In an Instagram post that sent shockwaves across the global Hip-Hop community, veteran music manager and former ‘gang-banger’ Cash ‘Wack 100’ Jones warned that Kay Slay’s condition was “not looking good.”
“He might be mad at me for this those that know Slay but he needs all the support he can get,” Wack wrote.
The renowned L.A manager also revealed that Kay Slay has been in hospital fighting COVID-19 in the past two weeks. However, things have not proved. Instead, it’s gotten worse and recently, the producer was reportedly placed on a ventilator.
According to Medical News Today, a ventilator is an essential device hospitals use to supply oxygen by “pumping air into the lungs.”
While it does not necessarily spell for the worst, for the producer, it is a reason to be concerned.

DJ Kay Slay biography
DJ Kay Slay is a native New Yorker born on 14 August 1966. Renowned in NYC streets by his nickname ‘Dez’ for his legendary graffiti works of the early 1980s, Kay Slay went on to become one of Hip-Hop’s most revered mixtape producers.
Up-and-coming artists in the late 1990s who needed a launch into the East Coast scene turned to the Streetsweeper for promotion.
Some of his most prominent works include:
- The Streetsweeper Vol. 1 (released in 2003 and peaked at #4 on the US Hip-Hop and R&B chart)
- The Streetsweeper Vol. 2 (released in 2004 and peaked at #10 on the US Hip-Hop and R&B chart)
- More Than Just A DJ (released in 2010 and peaked at #29 on the US Hip-Hop and R&B chart)
Before his stardom, Kay Slay dabbled in narcotics back in the late 1980s and, consequently, the producer fell to a drug charge. He was released from prison in 1990.
From what we understand, Kay Slay does not have children and no information is available on his romantic life.
