Danny Jordaan arrested: Here are the latest updates
The Hawks confirmed that Jordaan and his co-accused were detained following a raid earlier this year at SAFA’s offices in Johannesburg.
According to the Hawks, the charges stem from alleged misconduct between 2014 and 2018, during which Jordaan reportedly directed SAFA funds towards private expenses without board approval.
“The president is also reported to have violated SAFA statutes, thus prejudicing SAFA an actual loss of R1.3 million,” stated Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale.
Confiscated evidence includes a laptop, USB drives, and key documents.
What we know about the R1.3 million fraud case
The case revolves around unauthorised spending that allegedly includes private security and public relations services for Jordaan, all reportedly arranged outside SAFA’s formal approval channels.
Mogale explained that the ongoing investigation is “focused on examining violations of SAFA’s governance and financial protocols.”
Jordaan, a central figure in South African football, has a contentious history with fraud allegations, especially concerning his tenure as SAFA president.
In May 2023, forensic investigator Bart Henderson, with extensive experience in fraud examination, uncovered a series of governance, risk, compliance, and transactional issues that raised serious concerns.
Jordaan, along with SAFA Chief Financial Officer Gronie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling, is scheduled to appear in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Palm Ridge on Wednesday.
