Castle Lite has just announced that this year’s Unlocks concert event featuring New York rapstress Cardi B has been postponed.
Castle Lite Unlocks is postponed: Here’s what we know
In a statement, the premium beer brand indicated that the decision was inevitable after “the announcement made by President Cyril Ramaphosa on the government’s strict actions in addressing the [coronavirus] COVID-19 outbreak.”
Castle Lite had pulled off one of the best mystery reveal strategies South Africa’s event marketing landscape has seen in a long time.
The TicketPro Dome in Johannesburg was marked to be the epicentre of ‘lit’ with Cardi B prepared to deliver her first-ever performance in South Africa, on 12 June.
Unfortunately, due to things outside of the brand’s control, the decision was necessary
“We share the disappointment of our fans during this time of uncertainty, however, as a brand that cares for its consumers, we cannot ignore the growing concerns for health and safety as a result of the rapid spread of the COVID-19 in South Africa and around the world. It is important to highlight that an event of this magnitude has multiple moving parts and for this reason, the brand is deliberating and will communicate further details around new date and tickets by the end of March 2020,” Castle Lite Brand Director Silke Bucker said.
The options available for ticket holders
While no future date has been announced, Castle Lite confirmed that they were currently holding talks with Cardi B to establish a way forward.
Fans who purchased tickets have been left with two options. They can keep the tickets as TicketPro confirmed that they would be valid for the next Unlocks concert event, or they can lodge a claim for a full refund.
“Because Castle Lite Unlocks is merely postponed and not cancelled, consumers should hold on to their tickets until a new performance date has been announced. Consumers will then be able to exchange their tickets for the new performance date. Should a consumer wish to no longer attend the experience, they will be able to obtain a full refund, details of which will be communicated once we have announced the new performance date,” the statement read.
