All eyes will be fixed on Cassper Nyovest when he marks his return to Hip-Hop with a new single release on Friday, 19 August 2022.
Cassper Nyovest describes his next Hip-Hop single
Replying to a fan, the rapper made it clear that this time around, his supporters should not expect a Doc Shebeleza or Tito Mboweni type of record. In his own words, Nyovest described his next single Put Your Hands Up, as “just good music.”
“That’s the best way I can put it. It’s the music I should be making for my age, status and space that I have taken up,” he wrote in a tweet.
The last time we heard Nyovest on a rap beat was on Fakaloice’s Ooh Aah record, which featured a post-humous verse from the late Riky Rick. There, Nyovest sent tremors across the Hip-Hop community with a striking claim for the throne.
On Put Your Hands Up, however, the part-time celebrity boxer will tap into the music he grew up to for inspiration.
“I’m settling into a new role and making music that I grew up to, the music that I love, music that I miss and would love to hear. Friday!!!” he exclaimed.
Cassper Nyovest has had remarkable success in the Hip-Hop genre, albeit he has since pivoted toward Amapiano. Nyovest has released six studio albums, four of which are Hip-Hop projects.
His first album, Tsholofelo, dropped in 2014 under Kalawa Jazmee and included two of his biggest Hip-Hop records ever, Doc Shebeleza and Gusheshe featuring Malumkoolkat.
His follow-up album and last project under Kalawa Jazmee, Refiloe, dropped a year later and included top-draw guest appearances from the likes of Grammy Award-winning producer DJ Drama, Casey Veggies and The Game.
Two years later, Nyovest released his third Hip-Hop project, Thuto, the first album under his own imprint Family Tree, which included chart-topping singles like Destiny featuring Goapele and Tito Mboweni
Nyovest took a break and extended his craft beyond Hip-Hop with the release of his Amapiano album Sweet and Short 2018. This hiatus would be short-lived, however, since, in 2020, Nyovest returned with Any Minute Now, a Hip-Hop album he dedicated to his first child, Khotso Simba Phoolo.
Whether Put Your Hands Up is Nyovest’s return to the genre that made him remains to be seen. The new single drops on Friday.
