The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) responded promptly to extinguish the blaze, which originated on the second floor of the complex.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi confirmed that several residents sustained injuries while trying to escape the fire and were transported to nearby healthcare facilities for further medical care.
“Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire reported in Midrand, and injured patients were transported to the nearest health care facilities by Gauteng EMS,” Mulaudzi stated.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage, and investigations are ongoing to determine what triggered the blaze.
A resident shared her experience on social media, expressing shock at the event.
“My apartment building just went up in flames…. We had to evacuate immediately! Yoh!..I’m still in disbelief!” she wrote, providing a glimpse into the chaos and fear experienced by those who had to evacuate.
