South Africa’s black Barbie, Babalwa Mneno, could be forced to bid farewell to her top-of-the-line Range Rover in five days, if she does not honour her part an agreement with her vehicle finance provider.
Babalwa Mneno could lose Range Rover in a week
As reported by City Press, Mneno was a defendant in a court matter filed by Standard Bank last week, where it’s claimed the veteran media personality has repeatedly failed to make monthly payments towards her car for more than two years.
In court documents seen by the cited publication, the bank claims Mneno took out a vehicle finance loan totalling R1.5 million to purchase her luxury vehicle back in 2017.
Per the agreement, the 44-year-old was expected to make monthly payments of R20 035 towards the vehicle loan and, according to financial records, this was honoured until 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa.
Not only is Mneno reportedly behind on her monthly car payments for more than two years, but she’s also allegedly racked up more than R81 345 in penalties, as of February 2020. Added to this, her arrears, excluding accumulating interest on the loan, amount to R928 608.
“The defendant was required to remedy her breach of the agreement by making payment of the arrears and all overdue amounts under the agreement to the plaintiff,” the bank indicated in its submission to the court.
Expectedly, the court ruled in Standard Bank’s favour and, from what we understand, Mzansi’s Barbie reportedly has until Saturday 7 May 2022 to remedy her breach and pay the arrears, or else, “the plaintiff will be entitled to, inter alia, cancel the agreement and recover from the defendant in terms of the agreement the total amounts owing under the agreement.”
Mneno has yet to address the reports to the media of the public forum.
