Hollywood star Anne Heche is in a coma following a car crash on Friday, 5 August 2022. A representative stated that Heche remains in critical condition. The actress is comatose and connected to a breathing machine.
What’s the latest on Anne Heche’s condition?
Heche has been in hospital since after the compact car she was driving sped out of control in Los Angeles (LA), California, late on Friday morning.
“Shortly after the accident, Anne became unconscious, slipping into a coma and is in critical condition. At this time Anne is in extreme critical condition. She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention,” a statement read.
What caused the car accident?
The actor crashed her blue Mini Cooper into an apartment garage. She then drove off and ploughed into a two-storey house which resulted in a massive fire. The crash went down just after noon in the Mar Vista area.
Witnesses told TMZ that Heche first crashed into a garage of an apartment building. Residents of the apartment complex tried getting Heche out of the vehicle, but she put the car in reverse and then sped off.
A short time later, she crashed into a nearby home, igniting a fire. The fire spread quickly, and the house was engulfed by flames.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) confirmed that a female adult was taken to the hospital by paramedics in a “critical condition”. The person occupying the home escaped without injury.
It took 59 firefighters and 65 minutes to extinguish the blaze, according to the fire department.

Mar Vista neighbour David Manpearl told The Times that he saw a car speed by his window, then he heard a loud thud.
“Heche’s Mini Cooper had gone through the house and was lodged in a wall in the back,” he said.
The LAPD is investigating the circumstances of the crash. This includes the possibility that Heche may have been driving under the influence.
Officer Norma Eisenman confirmed to The Washington Post that a warrant for the actress’s blood was issued for the day of the incident. As of Tuesday, Heche had not been charged with any crime.
