After a challenging first day where they faced defeats against Ireland (10-5) and New Zealand (17-5), the Blitzboks needed to win by at least 21 points to progress.

The team started strong with Zain Davids scoring within the first minute. Impi Visser and Shilton van Wyk added to the tally, with Tristin Leyds converting to give South Africa a 21-0 lead within five minutes.

Ryan Oosthuizen’s try extended the lead to 28-0 by half-time, with Leyds converting again.

In the second half, despite Japan scoring an unconverted try, the Blitzboks continued their dominance. Rosko Specman and van Wyk each scored again, with Ronald Brown converting both tries, bringing the final score to 49-5.

With this victory, Team SA advanced to the quarter-finals, where they are set to face New Zealand at 21:00. If they win, they will meet either Argentina or France in the semi-finals. The quarter-final draw is as follows:
