Simu Liu, who was expected to resurface in Marvel‘s Shang-Chi Holiday Special, sent social media into an uproar over a tweet many are taking as an ill-timed joke.
Is the ‘Shang-Chi Holiday Special really cancelled as Simu Liu claims?
In a single tweet that ruptured the internet, Liu informed his near-million followers on Twitter that “Disney has decided to scrap the Shang-Chi Holiday Special due to quality control concerns.”
“I had already filmed the entire thing. I even designed an all-gingerbread Ta Lo. RIP Shang Chi and the Legend of the TEEEN GOLDEN RIIIIINGS,” Liu tweeted.
Liu not only sent daggers penetrating the hearts of Marvel fanatics, but he also dropped a bombshell in hinting that Disney had, in the first place, been secretly working on a holiday special.
The last we heard from Marvel was at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), where upcoming titles such as Black Panther 2, Secret Invasion, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and more were announced. No mention, however, was made of the holiday special Liu tweeted about.
Therefore, fans merely chalked Liu’s tweet as a joke, possibly poking fun at Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to pull the plug on a near-complete, $90 million (est. R1.4 billion) reprisal of Batgirl.
Until Liu resurfaces to calm waters and ‘psyke’ us all, his tweets ought to be taken seriously. Disney has, at this juncture, not formally addressed the speculation.
The actor has yet to formally address fans, but that doesn’t mean he’s not seen the meltdown in his comments. After all, Liu liked a tweet from basketball podcaster and NBA host Nick Angstadt, who wallowed in the thought of not ever seeing the fictional forest that protests intruders from Ta Lo, likening it to the Morris water maze.
Here are some of the reactions to Liu’s bombshell tweet.
