37-year-old seasoned actor and revered theatre performer, Sibusiso Radebe, has passed away.
Sibusiso Radebe loses fight to cancer
In a Facebook post, published by someone claiming to be a close friend, it is stated that Sibusiso Radebe was battling with cancer.
While this has been attributed as his cause of death, a person claiming to be the actor’s family member — Phila Vilakazi — replied to the Facebook post, criticising the ‘friend’ for overreaching the family’s wishes for privacy and time to make the official announcement in a statement.
“Please refrain from doing this. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time we will officially make a statement a little later,” Vilakazi wrote.
The things Radebe will be remembered for
Sibusiso Radebe was only 12 years old when he made his on-screen debut, on a teen magazine show called X-Attitude.
This was in 1995, four years before his breakthrough on Backstage, where he played Vusi, a role that challenged South Africa’s stereotypes around homosexuality.
He stayed in this role for five years and left the show in 2004. He would go on to make career-changing appearances in shows like Mzansi, Stokvel, Mthunzini.com and City Ses’la.
When is the funeral?
Details around Sibusiso Radebe’s death are still sketchy, at the moment. While we are confident in the information contained in the Facebook post published by the supposed friend, the family has yet to issue a formal statement.
Thus, the actor’s memorial service and burial information are not known at this stage.
