Mzansi is still being drawn into the toxic spats between songstress Yamikani ‘Lady Zamar’ Banda and her ex-lover Jabulani ‘Sjava’ Hadebe.
Social media split about Lady Zamar’s latest accusations
In a recently published Sunday World exclusive, Lady Zamar shook the country’s entertainment landscape when she alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the Ambitiouz Entertainment rapper in 2017.
The accusations, coming out at a very sensitive time in world entertainment, sent shockwaves through social media, with fans divided in opinion about the very idea of Sjava being the monster Zamar painted him out to be.
To understand how we got here, it is important to look back at the events that led to Zamar’s serious accusation against the star.
A look at how things got to where they are
The time we found out about their two-year love affair
Outside of the murmurs from those close to both camps, we only knew of Lady Zamar and Sjava’s relationship in April 2019, a month after they had officially broken things off.
Both stars confirmed the rumour in a series of tweets. However, the bitter of the two was clearly Lady Zamar.
The Monarch hitmaker made it known that in their on-and-off relationship that spanned two years (2017 until 2019), Sjava had allegedly been cheating on his wife with her.
She claimed to have been kept in the dark and lied to the entire time and only found out about Sjava’s marriage in the month they called it quits.
“You guys are exhausting man.. I’ve been saying… Your precious Zulu man is a liar and a cheater. Cheers to every person that didn’t believe me when I told them that n***as married.. coz in your face.. mxm y’all are exhausting. now y’all wanna drag me coz I didn’t know?” Zamar tweeted once, in retaliation to the backlash she received for messing with a married Sjava.
Zamar accuses Sjava of abuse
The Ambitiouz Entertainment rapper’s only response to this was a formal statement noting that he would not address allegations of this nature on social media.
Right when the hysteria around the scandal was dying down, Lady Zamar ramped up the allegations and accused Sjava of physical and mental abuse in a series of tweets.
Again, Sjava’s only input in the scandal was that his lawyers were dealing with the matter.
“As a final statement on this matter, I write to you as my colleagues, business partners, peers and supporters to inform you that I will not be engaging on the matter of false assault and abuse levelled against me on social med or any other platform because I have instituted legal proceedings in the High Court of South Africa and as such the matter is now sub judice,” the statement read.
While the rapper had stated his intentions to file a complaint against Lady Zamar for the statements she made about him on social media, it seems he never followed through with it.
Rape allegations surface in Sunday newspaper
Alas, life went on for both stars. Sjava’s career went on unscathed by the allegations and the Monarch star carried on with her life too. At least, until she approached the papers with fresh allegations that she was raped by the rapper in 2017 when they were in a discreet relationship.
in the Sunday World article, it’s reported that Lady Zamar opened a case of rape against Sjava in November 2019, at the Lyttleton police station in Pretoria.
In the case docket, which has since been transferred to the Thohoyandou police, it is alleged that the incident took place after the couple performed at the Royal Heritage Festival in Limpopo, three years ago.
Not much else has been revealed about the case and both stars — for a change — have refrained from making public statements on the matter.
Authorities have confirmed that this is an active investigation and more updates will be given once they become available.
