Things keep getting worse for fans of the hit drama show Generations: the Legacy as it was reported that Vusi Kunene ,who stars as legendary TV antagonist Jack Mabaso, has resigned from the show.
What’s the reason behind Kunene’s resignation?
According to renowned reporter Kgopolo Mphela, Kunene is expected to star on another show which will be replacing ETV’s drama series Rhythm City.
This came as a major shock to Generations fans especially since the show already had one of their legendary actors Rapulana Seiphemo, who played the iconic Tau Mogale, leave the show to star on rival drama show The Queen that airs on Mzansi Magic.
Another fan favourite Vuyo Dabula, who played the memorable role as the cold-hearted gangster Kumkani “Gadaffi” Phakade, had also left the show to star in Netflix’s now cancelled African original series Queen Sono.
These are huge blows for the SABC Telenovela and especially fans of the Generations series as most of these characters were considered fan favourites.
Vusi Kunene: A living legend
The legendary Vusi Kunene has had an impressive career as an actor, accomplishing what many actors dream of and this was clearly expected of an actor with such talent.
Besides his role as the villainous Jack Mabaso, Kunene had starred in other shows such as the classic hit series Yizo Yizo, Isidingo, Jacob’s Cross and Soul City where he was awarded for Best Actor at the Golden Horn award in 2011 and another in 2016 for his role on the hit SABC 1 series Isibaya.
Kunene also starred in many films dating back to the 1990’s however his biggest role was definitely his portrayal of Jack Mabaso during the peak era of Generations in the early 2000’s before his first departure, however fans were surprised to see him return and reprise his role as Mabaso in 2015 on Generations: The Legacy and many will admit that he was one of the best reasons to watch the show.
Kunene still only is 54 years of age so he still has a long way to go as an accomplished actor and we can’t wait to see how he performs in his next role on his new venture.
