Sometimes our gut feelings about discreet celebrity relationships are not too far off and in the case of Unathi Nkayi, this fact will become very clear.
The eclectic singer is without a doubt eye candy and her sensuality has drawn many male celebrities down her alley.
Unathi Nkayi has been linked to many celebrity relationships but none was more widely talked about than her acquaintance to Bonginkosi “Zola” Dlamini.
The United States’ (US) rap culture had Nelly and Kelly Rowland romance rumours spawned from a collaboration, and South Africa had Zola and Unathi.
The kwaito star’s Sana Lwami single featured Unathi and the chemistry between the two birthed an instant hit that still gets radio spins all these years later.
As it turns out, our suspicions about these two were true all along. Or, at least, we had our fingers right on the pulse they shared on the set of the music video shoot.
Unathi Nkayi: Who is her longtime crush?
On Wednesday, Unathi took to social media to go down memory lane and she had a couple of people to thank for the success of her career in music and entertainment.
First on the list was DJ Cleo who she shared a close relationship with. She attributed the highlights of her career to the friendship she maintained with the veteran producer since 1997.
“So people don’t know we’ve been friends since 1997. We met at Rhodes where you’d frequently come and play. Then it was this song and YFM,” she said.
She also lifted the lid on a secret she has kept to herself for years and admitted that she has held a crush on Zola since the time they met on the set of Sana Lwami.
What stopped these two from being a couple? Good old nerves, according to Unathi.
“As for uBonginkosi (Zola)… I owe him my music career. People don’t understand how we never dated He had a crush on me and I, him, but we were both too shy to do anything. (Well even today I am unable to make the first move and hit on a guy but I digress) I guess that’s what speaks to our chemistry in the song and the video. I love you both deeply,” she wrote.
Well, what do you know? Sometimes, things that are never said we, the fans and observers of our favourite celebrities, understand loud and clear.
