SA celebs who’ve spoken out against human trafficking

A common theme has occurred in the uproar that’s taken place on social media: Africa is bleeding. Nigerians are revolting against police brutality and in South Africa, the government is being lambasted for failing to act on human trafficking.

SA government called out for being mum about social issues

The grievances against the government led by President Cyril Ramaphosa are twofold. On one hand, people are gobsmacked by the perceived lack of urgency in the president — who’s also the head of the African Union (AU) — addressing the shocking events that are taking place in Nigeria.

On the other hand, a recent horrific ordeal suffered by a female pupil from Fields College, in Rustenburg, has reignited outrage about the government’s supposed inability to address the scourge of human trafficking and gender-based violence in SA.

ER24 medics and Rustenburg metro police were pictured on the scene where a pupil was almost kidnapped by unidentified perpetrators.

According to reports, the girl whose name is unknown was snatched and thrown into a car in broad daylight.

Fortunately, her survival instincts kicked in and she escaped the ordeal by jumping out of the getaway car that was speeding off.

The image of the Fields College pupil being consoled after the incident has since gone viral on social media.

With the whole world tuned into the civil unrest taking place in Africa, prominent South African voices have stepped forward to raise awareness about the heightened state of fear women in this country live in.

It would seem that the government has no practical response to combating human trafficking and this sentiment was shared by many on social media.

Here are all the celebs who’ve, thus far, come forward to speak out against this scourge:
