Ambitiouz Entertainment rapper Sjava has been withdrawn from the lineup of this year’s Cape Town International Jazz Festival.
Cape Town Jazz Fest drops Sjava from lineup
The organisation issued a notice on social media stating that following the rape allegations made against the multi-platinum-selling artist, it was left with no other choice but to remove him from the festivities.
“Due to the seriousness of the allegations levelled against Sjava, the Management of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival has withdrawn Sjava’s performance from the CTIJF 2020 line up,” the Jazz Fest tweeted.
Lady Zamar rape investigation still ongoing
Sjava is currently being investigated for allegedly raping fellow songstress Lady Zamar in late 2017. The case is being handled by the Thohoyandou police and at this time, no statements have been made with regards to evidence.
The story of Zamar’s alleged toxic love affair was spread across the front page of the Sunday World newspaper, with the headlines in bold: “Sjava Raped Me”.
It was discovered that the couple had maintained a discreet relationship for two years — between 2017 and 2019. Zamar took to Twitter in April 2019, a month after they had officially ended the on-and-off affair, to disclose that she had no idea that the rapper was in fact, a married man.
Moreover, the Monarch star alleged that Sjava was a very abusive partner, both physically and verbally. In the Sunday World article, it’s reported that Lady Zamar opened a case of rape against Sjava in November 2019, at the Lyttleton police station in Pretoria.
In the case docket, which has since been transferred to the Thohoyandou police, it is alleged that the incident took place after the couple performed at the Royal Heritage Festival in Limpopo, three years ago.
Sjava has yet to address the recent outrage he has faced on social media following the release of the article. His last statement regarding this scandal was:
“As a final statement on this matter, I write to you as my colleagues, business partners, peers and supporters to inform you that I will not be engaging on the matter of false assault and abuse levelled against me on social med or any other platform because I have instituted legal proceedings in the High Court of South Africa and as such the matter is now sub judice,” the statement read.
