It was only a matter of time before South Africa’s Instagram (IG) Live music battles picked up steam and we all have Nasty C and Emtee to thank for setting the standard.
Nasty C vs Emtee: Who won the battle?
This series of IG Live face-offs is overseen by super producers Gemini Major and Tweezy.
The idea of two pro musicians challenging each other to a catalogue battle was borrowed from Swizz Beats and Timberland, two veteran producers who turned a regular IG Live vibe session into a worldwide event.
Nasty C vs Emtee is the third official IG catalogue battle since Gemini and Tweezy went head-to-head.
The battle garnered more than 15 000 live views on Instagram and peaked at the summit of Twitter trends, making it the most successful IG Live battle in SA thus far.
Based on the scorecard turned in by the curator of South African Hip-Hop, Slikour, Nasty C edged Emtee by a single round, speaking highly of how much of a close encounter this was.
Did Cassper Nyovest poop on the Nasty C, Emtee party?
With the good, obviously came the bad, and who else could be seen as an envious, narcissistic party-pooper than the man himself, Cassper Nyovest?
Twitter erupted in backlash after Nyovest, failing to acknowledge the positives of this IG Live battle and its implications for South African entertainment, made snide comments about the contest.
As expected, things went awry and Emtee confronted the Amademoni rapper about his apparent envy.
Nasty C also bluntly reminded Abuti Fill Up that he may have accomplished a lot in music but his catalogue is not untouchable.
Who’s next on the lineup?
The whole exchange was messy but it makes for a tasty side-offering to the whole occasion. Next up on the roster, according to reports, is AKA vs K.O.
If there is any truth to these claims — no confirmation was received from neither artist — then we expect an intense match-up that will certainly break all kinds of records.
We will seek to verify this information but it’s alleged that the IG Live battle between these two Goats (greatest of all time) will take place on Thursday 23 April.
