Lunga Shabalala faces assault charges for allegedly beating up e-hailer
According to reports, Lunga Shabalala was taken into custody on the morning of Sunday, 22 September 2024, after allegedly assaulting an Uber driver in Fourways.
Per an inside source, “His girlfriend started assaulting the Uber driver for no reason, and instead of calming the situation down, Lunga joined in and started beating him.”
The incident escalated when a security guard attempted to intervene but was charged with malicious damage to property after Lunga’s girlfriend’s phone fell and got damaged.
All parties involved ended up filing countercharges and were subsequently arrested.
Both Shabalala and his girlfriend were reportedly under the influence at the time of the altercation.
This is not his first brush with violence
This isn’t Lunga Shabalala’s first encounter with the law.
In June 2023, he was accused of harassment and abuse by his former partner, radio host Thando Thabethe.
According to a report by City Press, Thabethe obtained a restraining order against Shabalala, citing what she described as “harassment and strange behaviour” following their breakup in October 2022.
Thabethe claimed that Shabalala continued to follow her and expressed concerns about him potentially disclosing intimate details from their past relationship.
Although Shabalala did not issue an official statement, he made a cryptic Instagram post that read, “Truth never gets old (plus love),” suggesting he had his own version of events.
