L-Tido returned to the music fold after three years of silence with the release of Pressure EP.
L-Tido Pressure EP review
It would be an injustice to the veteran rapper if his name was excluded from the list of South African Hip-Hop originators who stretched the envelope of the genre.
However, on Pressure, he does not justify his status as a top-tier musician, to say the least. If anything, the four-track offering sounds like a patch up operation where he dusted off the old crates and pulled out poorly mixed songs recorded eons ago and presented the package as a new release.
This is apparent on Mashaya, the only song on the EP with potential to turn heads and buy the rapper time to redeem himself on the next studio album. The loc drum, popularised by the dominant Amapiano genre, is so throttled, it sounds like the beat was mixed by an amateur sound engineer.
The absence of synchrony in the project, the poorly delivered production and questionable mixing makes it hard to plead a case for L-Tido on Pressure EP.
If there is a silver lining to the project, it would be the presence of the rapper’s sharp pen and satisfactory performances from guests AKA, Stogie T and Wunda.
The only song with enough replay value to buy L-Tido time would be Ghetto. Everything else is, unfortunately, machine washable and will most likely wither away in the vast void of nothingness.
You can tune into Pressure EP below. The mini-project is available on every digital streaming platform.
