Mbalentle Mlotshwa, known popularly as ‘Enhle Mbali’, has received mounting support after Monday’s turnout at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
Enhle Mbali wants restraining order against Black Coffee
A group of picketers held an anti-GBV demonstration outside the courthouse, with placards reading, “enough is enough.” Inside, Mbali’s application to have former husband Nkosinathi ‘Black Coffee’ Maphumulo’s access to their home revoke was heard.
The court, cautious in its handling of an assault charge laid against the DJ, opted to reserve judgment in the matter.
While the couple’s messy divorce proceedings are still a matter of great contention in ongoing litigation, Mbali filed an assault charge against her estranged husband following a raucous argument at the home they once shared, in March.
It’s said that the DJ was allegedly perturbed by a birthday celebration that was hosted at the residence. In a war of words with his soon-to-be ex-wife, it’s alleged that Coffee slapped Mbali on the wrist.
Mbali’s family representative Themba Mhinga told reporters, shortly after proceedings had concluded at the magistrate’s court, that irrespective of the veracity of the alleged assault, justice must be served.
“We just want justice to be served. Let the law take its course. We are just supporting our sister, you know. The truth will prevail in the end. There is not much we can expect, but for justice to be served and for her to feel safe and not have to worry about whatever she has been worrying about,” he said.
Mbali also shared her thoughts on the case. Speaking to the media, she said:
“It is my duty as a woman to not only fight for myself but for every single woman in South Africa. The time is now.”
What happens when a judgment is reserved?
Mbali and her legal team will have to wait for a few days before the court’s ruling is shared in confidence with both parties. After taking into account the arguments from both ends, the court will make a decision on the matter and hand down a ruling after it has been shared with both legal firms.
If the court sides with Coffee, the DJ may not be allowed access to his home, where his four children stay. At this time, it is too early to call how the matter will turn out.
No official date has been set by the court on when the decision will be handed down.
