Shockwaves were felt across the internet when it was revealed that the Loxion Kulca co-founder had passed away. His family confirmed the news to SwisherPost, saying:
“It is with profound grief and sadness that we confirm the passing of our Husband, Brother, Father and Son, Mzwandile Nzimande (44). He sadly passed away on Wednesday, the 13th January 2020 at 09:00 at the Olivedale Clinic in Johannesburg after being diagnosed positive with Covid19..”
A look into the life of DJ 1D
Loxion Kulca was born at the dawn of a new millennium and at its core, were two forward-thinking renegades, Gideon Abrahams and Nzimande.
DJ 1D’s vision and network of industry insiders propelled Loxion Kulca as the streetwear apparel of choice in South Africa’s vast townships.
The brand will forever be known for the strides it made in sowing itself into the fabric of South Africa’s arts and culture scene and central to that feat was Nzimande.
“He always offered support, smiles and a hearty warming laugh to encourage those around him. His love for his family, work and community is evident. Everything he put his mind to, he achieved with greatness and grace,” the family noted.
Due to circumstances necessitated by the state of things, DJ 1D’s funeral will be closed to the public. However, a live stream will be set up for fans, friends and media to join the send-off.”
Nzimande is survived by his wife Hlapo, his three daughters Senzi, Zandi and Zwelethu, and two sons Bheki and Ayanda.
